Took the express bus to save 20 minutes and actually lost an hour instead

One thing nobody has mentioned is the gap between express buses on some routes. If you just missed the express, you might stand there for 45 minutes waiting for the next one while three locals come by in the same time. The express schedule can be so infrequent that the time savings get wiped out by that wait.

I mean this kindly but I've had the opposite experience - express buses skip like 15 stops and that's usually worth the gamble. Hard to believe you actually lost time unless the driver took a nap or something.
