The bus driver in Portland told me to stop standing up early, and now I get a seat most days
Last month I was riding the 14 bus in Portland and I kept doing this thing where I would stand up two stops before mine so I could be first at the door. This driver, older guy with a gray beard, pulled over at a red light and told me to sit down because people see you stand and they all stand too, then everyone crowds up front and the back seats open up behind you. He said "watch, stay put till the bus stops." So I tried it. Next morning I stayed in my seat until the wheels quit moving, and by the time I got off there were three empty seats behind me. I have done it every day since and I get a seat on the way home about four out of five rides now. It sounds dumb but it works. Has anyone else had a driver drop a tip on them like that, and did it stick?
