Tested that trick where you board the back car of the 7 train to find a seat

I always thought that was just a myth or something people said to sound clever. But last week I was running late for a meeting in Queens, and the front cars were packed solid. So I walked all the way down to the last car at Grand Central and sure enough there were like 6 empty seats. It was legit. Now I'm wondering if it works on the E train too or just the 7 line. Anyone else found a specific train where this actually holds up?

Does it really matter that much where you sit on the train...

Don't you care about getting a quiet car vs the party car?
