Showerthought: I thought paying extra for the express train was a scam, then I did the math on my time
I ride the LIRR from Hicksville into Penn Station, and for two years I bought the cheaper off peak ticket and just dealt with the slower locals. Last month I finally added up what the express pass costs me over a month, about $43 more, and compared it to the 22 minutes I save each way. That is nearly 4 hours a week I was giving away for less than the price of a sandwich, so I switched and I am not going back. The seats are the same and nobody checks anything different, it is purely about the clock. Has anyone else run the numbers on their own commute like this, or am I just late to something obvious?
