Missed my stop twice this week because of Spotify shuffle
I ride the 7 train into Manhattan every morning. 42nd Street is my stop. Twice now I got so into a Discover Weekly playlist I just sat there. Missed the stop completely. Anyone else zone out with headphones and blow past their station?

Man, this is exactly what I'm talking about when I say we're all sleepwalking through our own lives now. The whole commute thing is like a weird trance we've all agreed to. It's not just missing stops either. I saw a guy almost walk into a pole last week because he was staring at his phone while crossing the street, didn't even look up. We're all so plugged into whatever's in our ears or on our screens that the real world just becomes background noise. The other day I noticed nobody even looks at each other on the train anymore, it's like we're all ghosts passing through. It's wild how normal that's become.

I started putting my phone away during my commute a few months ago, and it changed everything. @uma_baker99, I got tired of feeling like I was missing my own life, so I just stopped looking at it on the train. Now I watch people, I look out the window, I actually notice when we pass that old factory with the graffiti on it. It felt weird at first, like I was breaking some rule, but now it's peaceful. You see a lot more when you're not staring at a screen, even if it's just how the light hits the station floor. Try it for a week, you might be surprised how much you were tuning out.
