Lost $40 to a weird bus transfer machine in Chicago, be careful out there

So yesterday I tapped my card on the CTA bus and the transfer machine printed out this flimsy slip instead of the usual digital pass. I didn't check it until I got on the next bus and the driver said it was expired by 2 minutes, plus it was for the wrong route anyway. Apparently that specific bus line still uses paper transfers that glitch after 7 AM, cost me $40 for two separate rides that day. Has anyone else gotten burned by those old machines on the #66 route?
