I stopped boarding the first train that shows up at 7th Ave and it shaved 20 minutes off my trip
For two months I shoved onto whatever train pulled in at 7th Ave around 7:40am, standing shoulder to shoulder the whole way. Then a conductor waved me off one morning and pointed at the board: the local behind it was empty and got me to 42nd in 20 minutes flat. So now I wait one train instead of squeezing onto the first one, but does anyone know if that trick holds up during the winter schedule?

Waiting one train is basically the winter sport of standing on a cold platform while everyone else crams in like sardines. Let me know if the empty local still shows up when it is 20 degrees, because that is when the real test starts.
