Had three perfect commute days in a row last winter, then it all fell apart

Back in January I caught a lucky streak where I got a seat every morning on the 7:15 express bus into downtown Portland for three days straight. Even got to read half a book I had been working on for months. Then on Thursday the bus showed up 20 minutes late with a broken heater and someone's smelly lunch spilled all over the aisle. Made me wonder if those perfect days were just making me soft for the real commute grind. Anyone else notice how a few good trips in a row make the bad ones hit way harder?

Three days of bus luck in a row is like winning the transit lottery (seriously, that never happens). I had a similar stretch last fall on the 82 bus where I got window seats and clear roads for four days straight. Then bam, the next Monday the bus skipped my stop because the driver was new and I had to walk 15 blocks in the rain. It really does feel worse after a good streak, like the universe is reminding you not to get too comfortable. Sorry that spilled lunch ruined your book momentum too.

Oh man, I feel that one deep in my bones. That is just brutal, especially the smelly lunch part. I had a similar thing happen on my bus line a couple years ago where I got three perfect mornings with quiet riders and empty seats, then the next day some guy was yelling at his phone for the whole 45 minute ride and I couldn't even focus on my book. It really does mess with your head because those good days raise your hopes up and then reality smacks you back down. Makes you wonder if it's better to just expect the worst every time so you never get disappointed.
