The $240 laser level I used twice before it died

Back in March I picked up a rotary laser level for a fence project, figured it would pay for itself. Used it one weekend, then it sat in my garage until last month when I needed it for a shelf job. Wouldn't turn on, and the repair quote was $160, more than a new one. Anyone else buy fancy tools hoping for years of use and end up with a paperweight?

Yeah, tell me about it. I remember buying a toaster back in the 90s that lasted like fifteen years, we only got rid of it because we moved. Now I'm lucky if a coffee maker makes it past a year without some weird clicking noise. It's like they figure out exactly how long they need it to last and then build in a timer, I swear. And then you gotta pay more for the "good" brand which is still probably gonna crap out in two years anyway.
