That volunteer orientation at the Riverside food bank changed my whole approach
Last month I showed up to help sort donations and the coordinator spent 10 minutes explaining how they batch produce by ripeness, not by type. I always just grabbed whatever was on top and jammed it in a bag, felt efficient. Then she showed me how a bruised tomato next to a banana can ruin a whole box by the time it reaches a family. Now I actually read the posted schedule and ask which station needs hands instead of assuming my way was helpful. Has anyone else had a volunteer gig where the 'obvious' task turned out to be totally wrong?
