That free mulch from the city actually wasn't garbage

My neighbor kept telling me to grab the free mulch from the county drop-off site. I figured it'd be full of weeds and trash. Finally tried it last spring after I needed 10 cubic yards for my garden paths and didn't want to pay $300. It was mostly ground up tree trimmings, a few sticks I picked out. No weed seeds, broke down nice over the summer. Anyone else had good luck with city compost or mulch programs?

Nah mine was full of weed seeds and plastic bits.

Wait @oliver719, are you telling me yours actually had weed seeds in it? Mine just had a bunch of stems, seeds, and what looked like a tiny piece of styrofoam. Thought I was getting a great deal but it was basically trash. I spent more time picking out the garbage than actually smoking it. So yeah, I feel your pain on that one.
