Serious question, why does everyone push free tutoring over paid workshops
I've been helping at the local library for about 6 months now and everyone always says free tutoring is the way to go. But after running a small paid workshop last Saturday at the community center over on 5th street, I saw way more progress in 2 hours than in all my free sessions combined. We had 12 people show up and 9 of them actually finished the whole worksheet set. Has anyone else noticed paid groups get better results or is it just the group dynamic?

Honestly though that's just because people value what they pay for. When someone drops $20 on a workshop they're gonna show up and actually try because they don't want to waste their money. Free tutoring attracts a lot of people who just show up because it's free, not because they want to learn. I've seen kids at the library doodle on the worksheets, scroll through their phones, or leave after 15 minutes because there's no cost to them. The paid group filters out the people who aren't serious, so it's not the workshop being better, it's the crowd being more motivated. You'd probably get the same results if you charged $5 and let people take the free sessions just as seriously.
