Question about a community clean-up method that actually got me less trash than usual
I run a small volunteer crew that picks up litter at Coyote Creek Park in San Jose, and we usually fill about 12 bags on the first Saturday of each month. I thought inviting more people would mean more trash collected, so I pushed hard for 30 volunteers instead of our usual 10. But at our last clean-up, those 30 people only filled 7 bags because everyone chatted in one big group and skipped the far side of the creek. What changed my mind was a retired park worker named Luis who showed me how teams of 3 cover way more ground than a crowd of 30. I was wrong about bigger being better, and I want to fix how we run these events. Does anyone else have a system for splitting volunteers into small groups that actually works for messy areas?
