Our block's tool library lost its only drill and 3 people quit over it, so I rebuilt the checkout sheet myself
So our neighborhood tool library at the First Street community center has been running on a paper sign out sheet for 2 years, and it finally broke down on me. Someone borrowed the cordless drill on a Tuesday and it just never came back, and since the sheet only had a first name and no number, we had no way to track them down. I offered to fix the process and got told it was fine, then two more people walked off the volunteer list over it the same week. I ended up making a simple Google Form with name, phone, and due date, plus a photo of the item, and we went from losing stuff to zero missing tools in about 5 weeks. The whole thing took me like 90 minutes on a Sunday, which is way less time than we wasted arguing. Has anyone else run a small tool share or library and found a setup that actually keeps people honest without scaring off the casual borrowers?
