My volunteer shift at the food bank last Saturday was a total game changer

I mean, I've done community help stuff before, but this one day really stood out. We had 38 families come through in 3 hours, and I got to run the produce table for the first time. Turns out sorting bruised apples and bagging loose carrots seems simple, but there's a whole system to it, the manager showed me how to check for mold and rotate stock so nothing goes bad. What made it special was this older lady who teared up because we had fresh spinach, she said her grandkids actually eat it raw. Has anyone else had a moment like that where a small task felt way bigger than you expected?

Oh man, that spinach thing got me. My buddy Steve had a similar moment when he volunteered at a shelter once. He was just handing out socks, plain white tube socks, and this guy grabbed his hand and said it was the first pair he'd had without holes in months. Steve still talks about it, and that was like two years ago. It's wild how the smallest stuff can hit the hardest.
