Got ghosted by a local food bank, so I built a simple WhatsApp group instead
I spent 3 weeks emailing a food bank in Cleveland about organizing a weekend pickup drive and got zero replies. Finally set up a WhatsApp group for my block and now 14 neighbors rotate shifts every Saturday, no paperwork needed. Anyone else just skip the official channels and go straight to neighbors when the system stalls?

My neighbor Ruth set up a carpool group last winter when the county bus service cut our route. I remember telling her it was a waste of time, that we needed to file complaints with the city first. But within two weeks she had 20 families sharing rides to the grocery store and the clinic. Watching that work made me see that official systems are slow and sometimes they just don't care. Your WhatsApp group sounds exactly like that, it cuts out the waiting and gets people fed. I think the real lesson here is that neighbors can fix things faster than any office ever will.

Whoa, that's a good point about the "caring" part. Like, people blame the system being slow, but sometimes it's just that nobody in charge actually feels the urgency. Ruth and your neighbor group, they have to live with the results, so it matters more to them.
