A volunteer coordinator in Dayton set me straight on how I give feedback

I used to jump straight to pointing out what someone did wrong when I was helping at the food bank. Last month, one of the coordinators pulled me aside and said, "You're killing their drive before they even finish." She told me to start with what worked, then ask if they want tips instead of just dumping my critique. I tried it the next Saturday with a new volunteer who packed boxes too heavy, and she actually listened and fixed it. Has anyone else had to rework how they deliver feedback to keep people coming back?
