Spent $600 on a used ice machine off Craigslist last month

Found a 3 year old Manitowoc for sale from a diner closing down, figured I was saving like $2000 new. Thing ran okay for two weeks then started making slushy cubes with a weird smell. Anyone else gamble on used ice machines and regret it?

Betty, that ice machine better come with a lifetime supply of cubes and a personal apology from the previous owner for 600 bucks. Honestly, at that price I'd expect it to also make snow cones, freeze my credit card debt, and maybe cure my bad back. If you're gambling on used appliances, the house always wins and you lose on the repair bill. I bought a used fridge once and the ice maker sounded like a dying cat for two years before it gave up completely. So unless that thing is certified still working and guaranteed for a while, you're basically paying to haul away someone else's problem.
