My uncle swore by using a metal scraper on our flat top grill

He told me, 'You need to get that carbon off with some real force,' so I did it for a whole year. After a while, I started seeing tiny scratches that food would stick to. I switched to a plastic scraper and a specific grill cleaner, and the surface is way smoother now. Has anyone else had to unlearn a cleaning habit that was actually causing damage?

My cast iron gets better with a metal spatula.

Honestly thought that was wrong until my own pan smoothed out perfectly.

Ugh, metal on a flat top is a terrible idea. Those scratches just create more places for gunk to get stuck. Your uncle was totally wrong on this one.
