Had to choose between a used Rational oven and a new budget brand last month for our pop-up
Tbh I went with the used Rational because I know their steam injection is solid, but the repair guy quoted me $600 for a seal replacement and now I'm second guessing. Has anyone else taken the gamble on high-end used gear and regretted it?

Skyler nailed it with that "basically buying a whole new unit" line, that's exactly the kind of dread that sets in after a repair bill like yours. $600 for a seal is brutal, but at least with Rational you know the part exists and someone can actually fix it. I've seen enough cheap ovens brick themselves after one bad steam cycle to feel like you made the safer call even if it stings right now.

Yo that $600 seal hit hurts but honestly Rational parts are way easier to find than budget brand stuff. If something major goes on the cheap oven you're basically buying a whole new unit instead of fixing it.
