Can we talk about how much energy a single fryer actually eats?

I was looking at my utility bill for my small diner in Akron and noticed the electric line item was way higher than I expected. Did some digging and found out a single 80 pound gas fryer can pull over 120,000 BTUs just sitting at idle. That seems insane to me. Has anyone here switched to something more efficient or found a way to keep the heat in better?

120k BTUs just to sit there and think about its life? Man I'd wrap that thing in a sleeping bag if it saved me 15%. Fiberglass blankets sound annoying to clean though, bet they catch all the grease splatter and look like a monster after a month.

My buddy runs a diner in Youngstown and he swears by wrapping the fryer tanks with those fiberglass blankets... said it cut his gas usage like 15% just by keeping the heat in instead of leaking it out into the kitchen.

Reminds me of the time my uncle wrapped his water heater in an old blanket. Same idea lol.
