Spent 4 hours on a simple hydraulic fitting in zero viz

Working a bridge inspection in Mobile, my backup light hose blew a fitting at 80 feet in total mud. Had to feel for the right size in my kit with thick gloves, took forever to get the threads started straight. What's your go-to method for dealing with small parts in black water?

You ever try keeping a spare fitting in your mouth while you work? I had a buddy who did bridge inspections down in Panama City, and he swore by that trick for small parts in zero viz. He said if you tape it to your glove like hannah_fox mentioned, you still gotta peel it off one-handed which can be a nightmare. Anyway, one time he dropped a tiny o-ring in the mud and spent 20 minutes patting around like a blind man for it. He finally gave up, surfaced, and found it stuck to his chest hair inside his drysuit. So yeah, sometimes you just gotta laugh and accept the chaos down there.

Why not just tape the part to your glove before you go down? Feeling around in the dark is a last resort, not a method.

Tape can fail though, and sometimes you just have to find it by feel. (Been there, done that, got the greasy gloves.)
