Saw a crew working the Cooper River bridge in Charleston and counted 4 different dive hats in one day
I was down in Charleston last week visiting my brother and walked the Ravenel bridge a couple times. There was a crew doing inspection work on the piers and I sat and watched them for maybe an hour. What got me was how many different helmets came out of the same truck, a rat hat, a SuperLite, a band mask, and something older I couldn't place. I'm used to seeing one setup per company, so seeing a mixed kit like that made me wonder if they run whatever the job calls for or if it's just what the old guys refuse to give up. Any of you work with a mixed gear crew like that, and does it slow you down or does it actually help?

Just what the old guys refuse to give up" is probably closer to the truth than you'd think, a lot of those mixed kits come down to senior divers who won't trade their worn-in hat for whatever new setup the company bought. Honestly though, I've never seen it slow a good crew down, since the guy on deck knows every hat's quirks anyway.
