My uncle told me to always carry a backup dive light, even on a simple harbor job in Seattle. I finally listened after a silt-out last month.

Man, I used to think a backup was overkill for easy dives. That exact harbor situation changed my mind real quick, though. You just never know when you'll need it.

Remember that time my dive buddy's computer just blanked out at 60 feet? Total black screen. @keith264, it was a simple reef dive, supposed to be easy. We had to do a whole safety stop using my computer and his backup timer. Felt way longer than three minutes.

Totally get that. My primary computer flooded on a shallow wreck dive last year, just died completely. I had my old one clipped off as a backup and it felt like the longest swim back to the boat ever. Now I dive with two computers every single time, no matter how simple the plan is. It just takes one weird failure to ruin your whole dive, right?
