Just logged my 200th hour of bottom time this quarter

It snuck up on me because most of it was low-vis harbor work, not big offshore jobs. Makes you think about the actual wear on gear and joints. Anyone else track their hours and get surprised by the total?

Wow, that's a serious number of hours. I hit a similar total last year and it really made me look at my gear differently. My backup regulator needed new seals way sooner than I expected. All those little harbor dives just grind everything down, don't they? My knees started talking to me, too.

Tell me about it. My old wetsuit got so thin from all that shore diving it was basically a second skin. Saw more rust on my knife last month than in the previous five years. That constant sand and salt just eats everything for lunch. Even my fin straps gave out mid-kick once, which was a real fun surprise.

But doesn't all that harbor work actually keep your skills sharp for when you really need them? I find the gear wear is just part of the job.
