Hot take: I used to think a 5-minute pre-dive check was enough for any job
After a regulator free-flow at 90 feet on a bridge job in Tampa, I now run a full 15-minute gear test before even getting wet. Anyone else have a near-miss that made you slow way down?

What kind of stuff do you include in that 15 minutes now? I had a similar scare with a drysuit leak... my whole check got way more detailed after that, like actually testing every single o-ring and inflator hose, not just a quick glance.

Some folks learn the hard way, but that's not the only path. Good training and mentorship can build those habits early. You don't need a scare to do things right.
