Hot take: I think the "decompression sickness is rare" stat is way off for inland diving

I was looking through the DAN accident reports last night and saw that over 40% of DCS cases in 2023 were from dives under 100 feet in freshwater. Everyone talks like it's a deep ocean problem but the numbers say different, anyone else seeing this in their cert classes?

Yeah that stat bit about what your instructor said really clicked with me. I remember when I was first learning, I tried to memorize everything and it just made my head spin. What actually worked was just getting out there and practicing in real shallow spots, you know, like under 20 feet where you can mess up and still be fine. I messed up my buoyancy a ton at first but after a few dives it just started feeling natural. So maybe just focus on getting your gear dialed in and don't sweat the small stuff too much, it'll come with time.
