Got tired of my dive knife rusting every trip, tried a cheap fix a guy on the dock in Galveston told me about
I was going through a knife every few months, rust would eat the edge no matter how much I rinsed it after a job. A tender on a barge in Galveston told me to stop rinsing with fresh water and instead coat the blade in a thin layer of silicone grease before it goes in the sheath. I tried it on a $40 knife back in March and after 14 dives it's still clean, no pits. The grease doesn't wash off in salt water and it doesn't gum up the lock either. Has anyone else run this trick, or is there a better lube that holds up on longer bottom times?
