Appreciation post: Switched to a different defog method last month and my mask stays clear way longer.

I used to just spit in my mask like everyone showed me when I started. Last month on a job in Tampa, a guy on the crew said to try baby shampoo mixed with water in a little spray bottle. I did a 45 minute dive on Monday with zero fog after the first 5 minutes. Before that, I was clearing my mask every 10-15 minutes. Anyone have a different mix they swear by?

So you just spray it on the lens and rinse it with a little water before you jump in? I've been doing the spit and rub thing for years, but it always wears off fast if I'm working hard. Does the shampoo mix leave any kind of film or residue behind after you rinse it?

Yeah, the baby shampoo trick is solid. I switched to a drop of dish soap in a spray bottle with water, works about the same for me. Honestly, anything is better than the old spit method.

Wait, you use dish soap too? I've been doing that for YEARS, just a tiny drop in a spray bottle. It works SO much better than spit, and it doesn't wear off after like ten minutes. I give it a quick rinse in the pool or ocean and it's perfect, zero film left behind. That old spit method is just gross when you think about it.
