A talk with a retired salvage diver in Galveston made me think about the long game

I was having a beer with a guy who worked salvage back in the 80s, and he asked me what my five year plan was. I gave him the usual stuff about getting more certs and maybe a supervisor spot. He just shook his head and said, 'You're thinking about the next job. I'm talking about your last one. What are you doing now so you can still bend over to tie your boots at 55?' He told me he's had three knee surgeries and can't feel two of his fingers. It wasn't a scare story, just real talk. Made me book a physio checkup the next morning. How many of you guys actually have a real plan for your body's wear and tear?

But what makes it feel like a gift, @ryan_price? The way you said it sounds like there's a story there. I'm just trying to get the full picture.
