A harbor pilot in Seattle told me my umbilical hose routing was a 'snag waiting to happen' and it made me change my whole rig setup.

That "snag waiting to happen" line is a perfect example of how a fresh set of eyes spots the obvious risks you've gotten used to. It happens with everything from tangled computer cables to a messy garage. You live with a small problem so long you stop seeing the big danger it could cause.

You're right on the money, @clairer79. It makes me wonder how many near misses we've all had because of that blind spot. Is there a good way to reset your own eyes to see those risks again, or do you always need an outside person to point them out? Feels like a trap we set for ourselves without even knowing.

Yeah that "snag waiting to happen" line really got me. I used to think my setup was fine until someone said that, now I see it everywhere. Totally changed how I look at my own gear.
