Tried a $3 back issue bin and it ruined my pull list habits

At a flea market in Dayton last Saturday this seller had a long box of 50 cent books and I grabbed about 30 random issues just to flip through. Normally I only buy new releases and store variants, but I spent like two hours just reading old Swamp Thing and Astro City stories I never touched. The writing was way denser and weirder than what I pick up monthly, and I kept thinking about them the whole ride home. That same night I pulled my monthly stack and honestly felt like I was just collecting covers for my shelf, not reading stories. I cancelled three titles I had on subscription and put the money toward dollar bins at conventions for the next few months. Has anyone else gone backwards like this and found more fun in old cheap books than the new stuff coming out this year?

Oh man, that hits way too close to home. I did the same thing last year with a bunch of dollar bin Silver Age stuff and now my pull list is basically just two books. The old writing feels alive, like someone actually sweat over every page, but the new stuff sometimes feels like it was made in a factory. I get that shops need to sell variants and events, but I stopped caring about the fancy covers once I read a worn out issue that had coffee stains on it. That story stayed with me for weeks. I'd rather have a stack of beat up books that make me think than a shelf full of pretty comics I forget by Tuesday.
