The whole "I only read trades" thing is getting out of hand

I was at my local shop last weekend and this guy said he won't touch single issues because they're "not the real story" until the trade comes out. He missed that a key plot twist in the current run only made sense because of a backup in issue #3 that didn't make it into the collection. How do you deal with people who act like single issues are just previews for the real book?

Did that backup actually get cut from the trade though? Sometimes creators keep things in singles to drive early sales but then add them back for the collection. It's worth double checking before writing off the whole trade crowd.
