That dealer in Portland told me to bag my floppies a certain way

This guy at a con in Portland swore putting my comics in mylar with half boards would wreck the spines over time, so I switched to full boards and bags. Three years later my long boxes fit way less, but my books lay totally FLAT and the covers don't wave at all. Has anyone else tried the half board thing and seen damage, or is this just one shop's weird rule?
