Spent 3 weeks hunting for a Nova #1 at every shop in Portland and a flea market vendor sold it to me for $8
Three weeks ago I started hitting every comic shop between Beaverton and Gresham looking for a decent copy of Nova #1 from 1976, and I was getting nowhere because everybody either had it graded and locked in a case or wanted $60 for a beat reader. Last Saturday I gave up on shops and tried the flea market out on Foster Road, mostly just to kill a morning, and a guy with a folding table full of old boxes pulled it out when I asked about Marvel stuff from the 70s. It's not a 9, spine ticks and a little foxing on the back cover, but he wanted 8 bucks cash and I handed it over before he could change his mind. Here's my hot take, slab hunting at shops is killing the fun of digging, and half the good stuff is still sitting in boxes at markets where nobody thinks to look. Am I wrong for thinking raw copies under $20 beat a graded 8.5 every time?
