Overheard a couple at the comic shop talking about the new X-Men run

They were saying they only bought it because of the hype online and didn't actually like the story. It made me think we're all just chasing trends sometimes. I've done it myself, like buying that 'Immortal Hulk' #1 variant for 50 bucks just because everyone said to. How do you decide what's worth your money and what's just noise?

Chasing trends is real. I just buy what looks cool to me now.

Oh man, I actually read something interesting about this the other day. There was this article talking about how fast fashion companies are literally timing their drops to make you feel like you're missing out if you don't buy right away. It said the whole idea of "looking cool" is being engineered by algorithms now, not your own taste. I mean, I get where your buddy is coming from, that orange jacket sounds hideous to me too. But I think most of us don't even realize how much marketing is shaping what we think looks good. It's kind of wild when you step back and look at it.

My buddy bought this bright orange puffer jacket last winter because it looked cool in the store. By February, he saw it on sale everywhere for half price. Now it's hanging in his closet with the tags still on. He says it feels like wearing a traffic cone.
