Just visited the LCBS in Austin and saw something wild

I swung by Austin Books & Comics on a whim last Saturday to grab a new pull list and I noticed this older guy in the corner just reading through a stack of old Groo comics. He was laughing out loud at some of the jokes, like full on belly laughs, and it got me thinking about how rare it is to see adults just enjoying a comic without worrying about grading or flipping it for money. The owner told me that guy comes in every week, grabs a few dollar bin issues, and spends an hour just reading and chuckling. It made me realize I've been super focused on collecting keys and rare variants that I kinda forgot the whole point is to have fun. Has anyone else had a moment like that where another fan reminded you to slow down and just enjoy the ride?

Guess that guy figured out comics are supposed to be fun, not a day job on eBay. Maybe we should all grab a Groo and a cheap dollar bin laugh.

Are you saying the whole grading and flipping scene has killed the actual joy of reading for a lot of collectors? I remember when grabbing a random Groo or a beat up Simonson Thor felt like a score because the story was fun, not because I was hoping to flip it for rent money next month.
