I was gatekeeping my own collection for years without realizing it
My friend's kid asked to see my old X-Men comics, and I gave him a whole speech about handling them with gloves. He just looked sad and walked away. It hit me that I was more worried about the books than sharing the hobby. Anyone else catch themselves doing this?

Man I felt this in my soul lol. Did the exact same thing with my old Magic cards last year. My nephew just wanted to see a cool dragon and I hit him with the "don't bend it" lecture before he even touched the sleeve. Totally killed his excitement. We get so caught up protecting the stuff we forget the whole point is to enjoy it. That kid probably thinks comics are a museum exhibit now.

Picture the poor kid just trying to look at a dragon and getting hit with the terms and conditions before he can even hold it. You basically turned a fun moment into a library rules video. Next time just hand him the card and let the sheer coolness of the art do the teaching for you.

You know what's funny about that, @ericb66? I bet your nephew would have been way more careful after seeing the cool dragon. Sometimes we just need to let people touch the stuff first.
