I was at a coffee shop in Austin and overheard a dad explaining Green Lantern's oath to his kid, and it hit me different.

Sounds like a nice moment, but maybe it's just a dad reciting comic book lines. That oath is basically about willpower making a magic ring work, right? Not exactly deep life advice for a kid. People read way too much into this stuff, turning superhero stories into something they're not. It's just entertainment at the end of the day. Why do we need to find a big meaning in every little thing we see?

Yeah, and it's a comic book oath for a reason. The whole point is it's a simple tool for a made up power. We don't need to treat every pop culture moment like it's some big life lesson. Sometimes a dad just knows the lines and his kid thinks it's cool, and that's enough. Looking for deeper meaning in everything just takes the fun out of it.

Wait, hold on. That moment is way bigger than just reciting lines. It's a dad sharing something he cares about, and giving his kid a simple, powerful idea to hold onto. In a world full of messy stuff, "will over fear" is a pretty solid thing to learn, even from a comic. Letting kids find meaning where they can is part of the fun.
