Found 4,800 comic books in my dad's storage unit in Modesto and I had to count every single one myself
My dad passed two winters back and we finally got around to clearing out his storage unit in Modesto last month. I figured it was mostly old tools and fishing gear, but behind a tarp was 11 long boxes packed tight with comics. I started counting them just to see what we were dealing with, and the number came out to 4,800 books. The part that got me was the dates, because almost 1,900 of them were between 1975 and 1982, which is way older than I figured he ever collected. He never once mentioned comics to me growing up, not a single word about it. I sat on the concrete floor for two hours just pulling random issues and reading the letters pages. Now I'm stuck on what to do next, so for the folks here who have dealt with a big surprise collection, did you sort by title, by value, or just sell the whole thing in one go? Also wondering if it's worth paying someone to grade the older ones or if that's a waste for a pile this size.
