A friend pointed out I was gatekeeping by correcting every little continuity error at our local comic shop.

Now I just keep those corrections to myself unless someone specifically asks, which has made hanging out there way more fun.

Totally get that. I used to do the same thing with movie trivia until my buddy just sighed and said "dude, we're just trying to watch the car chase." Now I only pipe up if someone's genuinely confused about a plot point.

Yeah it's a hard habit to break. I was that guy about old video game lore, like getting into arguments about the Zelda timeline in a pizza place. My friend finally asked if knowing the exact year Ocarina of War happened made the breadsticks taste better. Kinda killed my vibe, but he was right. Now I save it for when my little cousin actually wants to know why Link is in so many games.

There is a place for friendly corrections if done with the right spirit. My friends and I actually enjoy a good deep dive into trivia because we all love the details that make stories work. It seems a shame to lose that shared nerdery just because of one grumpy person at a pizza place.
