My voltage regulator fried on a Sunday drive and the parts store fix cost me $11
Took the 66 Mustang out on Route 9 near Frederick last Sunday and the headlights started pulsing like a strobe light, then the amp gauge swung hard right and the radio died. Pulled over at a gas station and the battery was hot enough you could feel it through the fender. My regulator had gone bad and was overcharging at like 16 volts, cooking the battery. The shop wanted $180 for a new one and a tow on top of it. I grabbed a $11 regulator from the parts store in town, swapped it in 20 minutes with a screwdriver, and drove home with the gauge sitting right at 14. What's your go-to roadside spare you keep in the trunk for stuff exactly like this?
