Bought a $15 'barn find' radio at a swap meet in Ohio, turns out it plays AM better than my truck
I grabbed this dusty old tube radio at the Springfield swap meet last April for 15 bucks, mostly as a joke for my dash. Wired it up with a 6 volt battery on my workbench and it pulled in a Cleveland AM station clearer than the $200 head unit in my daily. Spent two weekends cleaning 60 years of grime off the dial and now it lives in my '52 pickup. Kind of ruins the whole 'modern audio' thing for me, honestly. Anyone else running period radios and actually liking the sound better?
Pulled a similar stunt with an old Zenith clock radio from a garage sale, paid 8 bucks, thing weighs like 10 pounds. Brought it home and my wife just stared at me like I dragged home a raccoon. But man, the warm hum and that big round speaker make talk radio sound like a guy sitting in the room with you. My fancy Bluetooth speaker sounds flat and dead next to it. Now I keep scouting flea markets for tube stuff and she keeps hiding my wallet.
