The barista at Stumptown in Seattle fixed my pour over routine for $18

I used to just dump hot water over grounds and hope for the best. A barista named Dana at the Pine Street location watched me do it and shook her head, then showed me the pulse pour method with a cheap kitchen scale. Took me 3 tries to get it right, but now my morning coffee tastes like the $6 cups I used to buy. Has anyone else had a random stranger totally upgrade a basic habit like that?
