My backup drive failed during a move, lost 6 years of photos in one bump
Last month I was hauling a box of computer stuff down three flights of stairs in Austin when the external drive slipped out and hit the concrete landing. It clicked twice and went dead, no drama, just gone. I had told myself for years that cloud storage was a scam and my local copy was fine, so I never mirrored anything. Took it to a repair shop, they quoted $900 to try recovering the data and said it was a 40% chance. Now I pay $6 a month for Google storage and back up every Sunday, has anyone else learned this the hard way with a specific drive or service?

Ngl I lost a whole novel draft to a dead laptop, now I use two flash drives and a cloud copy just in case.
