Is the DIY fix-it culture dying or just shifting online?

I remember 10 years ago my neighbor would borrow a wrench and fix his own lawnmower, now everyone just throws things away and buys new. I saw a broken microwave sitting out on trash day last week that probably just needed a $5 fuse, nobody even tried. Are we losing the skill to fix stuff ourselves or is it just that YouTube makes it feel easier but nobody actually follows through?

Is it more about the cost of time now versus the cost of the thing? Like how long does it take to diagnose, order the part, and fix it compared to just clicking a buy button and having a new one tomorrow?

Click a buy button and have a new one tomorrow" is basically my wallet's worst enemy at this point. I swear half my "repairs" now are just me throwing up my hands and ordering a whole new thing because my time is worth more than my patience.
