Warning: Dialing in a new grinder can be a real rabbit hole

Honestly, I spent a solid two weeks trying to get my new hand grinder to stop producing so many fines. It took me that long to realize the burrs needed a proper seasoning run with a cheap bag of beans first. Anyone else hit a weird break-in period with new gear?

Wait, is that really a thing with burrs? I mean, I've always heard you just clean them and go. Maybe it's just my gear but I never noticed a break-in.

Try seasoning them with cheap beans first.

Yeah, it's totally a thing... cheap beans are like sandpaper for the burrs. I did it with an old bag of grocery store dark roast and the grind got way more even after. Carr.james might not notice a break-in on some grinders, but on my budget one it made a huge difference. The first few shots were super bitter, then it settled down. It's like wearing in new shoes, but for your grinder.
