Tried the James Hoffmann ice cube trick in my drip maker and now I can't decide if it's genius or sacrilege
Last week I was rushing out the door in Denver and dumped a leftover ice cube from the tray into my drip machine's carafe before brewing, mostly out of laziness. The pot came out way smoother with zero of that burnt aftertaste I usually get from my $35 Black and Decker, and I've done it 6 mornings in a row now with the same result. So here's my dilemma: is this a legit fix for cheap machines that run too hot, or am I just masking bad coffee with cold water and fooling myself? Half of me says if it tastes better, who cares what the purists think. If you brew drip at home, would you try dropping a cube in, or is that crossing a line you won't touch?
