The moment I realized my French press needed a coarser grind was 6 months ago

I was in my kitchen in Austin last January with a fresh bag of beans from a local roaster. My morning coffee kept coming out muddy and bitter no matter what I did. After reading a forum post, I switched from a fine drip grind to a much coarser one on my burr grinder. The difference was night and day - cleaner taste and way less sludge at the bottom. Has anyone else had a simple grind change fix their whole morning routine?

My Burr grinder setting was too fine for almost a year before I figured it out.

Oh @holly_green82 I feel this so much. Took me forever to realize my grinder was way too fine too. What finally helped was watching the actual flow of water through my basket - if it stalled or took over 30 seconds to drain, I knew I had to back off the setting. I ended up going a full 4 clicks coarser than where I started and suddenly my coffee tasted way less bitter and harsh. The puck would actually come out clean instead of muddy.
