That time I scorched my Chemex brew last weekend in Austin

So last Saturday I was making my usual morning pour over in my Chemex, right? I got distracted by my dog barking at a squirrel and let the water sit on the grounds way too long. Ended up with this bitter, burnt tasting cup that was basically undrinkable. I had to dump the whole thing down the sink. It was a bummer since I used some fancy Ethiopian beans I paid $18 for at a local roaster. I usually keep my water temp at 200 degrees but I think it spiked up since I left the kettle on. Has anyone else ruined a brew by messing up the timing or getting distracted?

Did I write this post myself and forget about it, because that sounds exactly like something I would do too?

Told my wife I was going to the hardware store for one thing and came back three hours later with a new drill and no memory of buying it. She still brings that up every time I leave the house.
